Project Overview

Jesse Hall, one of the oldest and most distinguished buildings on the University of Missouri campus, required a comprehensive exterior restoration to address decades of deterioration. Originally completed in 1895 with an auditorium addition in 1953, the historic structure had developed significant deficiencies stemming from moisture infiltration, freeze-thaw cycles, thermal movement, and aging joint conditions across multiple building materials and additions. The $5,000,000 project encompassed masonry restoration, roofing, sealant replacement, and structural repairs to preserve the building's architectural integrity. PRESWERX supported the client's pursuit of this work with proposal and presentation services.

Client Challenges

Pursuing a historic preservation project at a prominent state university required the client to communicate a technically complex, multi-trade scope in a clear and compelling way:

  • Translating intricate masonry restoration and envelope repair work into a cohesive, owner-facing narrative

  • Conveying expertise in historic preservation methods and materials to a sophisticated institutional owner

  • Differentiating the team in a competitive selection for a high-profile campus landmark

  • Presenting a unified story across a scope involving multiple material types, trade disciplines, and building eras

Each of these challenges demanded a pursuit package that matched the precision and care the project itself required.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX developed a comprehensive proposal package tailored to the technical and institutional demands of this historic restoration pursuit. The team produced written proposal content that clearly articulated the client's restoration methodology, covering masonry conservation, tuckpointing with historic pointing mortar, steel lintel repair, thru-wall flashing installation, and sealant joint replacement across the full exterior envelope. Presentation materials were developed to visually reinforce the scope sequence and the client's experience with comparable historic structures. PRESWERX also supported interview preparation, coaching the team on how to deliver a clear and confident narrative aligned to the university's evaluation criteria.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX approached this pursuit as a story about stewardship: the careful, disciplined restoration of a historic campus landmark by a team with the expertise to handle its complexity. The strategy centered on making the technical accessible without diluting the depth of the client's qualifications:

  • Organized the written proposal around the building's distinct material systems, framing each trade scope within the broader restoration narrative

  • Developed presentation visuals that connected scope elements to the building's architectural history and the university's preservation goals

  • Coached the client's team on communicating historic preservation expertise with authority and clarity during the selection interview

The result was a pursuit package that positioned the client as the team best equipped to protect the integrity of one of the university's most storied buildings.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a fully integrated pursuit package built around the precision and credibility this high-profile historic restoration required:

  • Written proposal content that translated a technically dense, multi-trade restoration scope into a clear and compelling owner-facing narrative

  • Presentation materials that reinforced the client's historic preservation expertise and connected each scope element to the university's long-term stewardship goals

  • Interview coaching that sharpened the team's delivery and ensured a confident, organized performance in front of the selection panel

The client entered the selection process with a cohesive story, a polished visual presentation, and a team fully prepared to demonstrate why they were the right choice for Jesse Hall.
