Project Overview

The Watertown Multi-Purpose Ice Arena in Watertown, South Dakota delivered a new two-ice-sheet community arena for the City of Watertown, located within the Willow Creek development. The $36,500,000 facility features a primary sheet frozen approximately ten months of the year with seating for 1,250 spectators, and a second sheet that converts to multi-purpose event space for trade shows, receptions, and community gatherings when not on ice. The facility gives the city a year-round civic destination serving both competitive ice sports and broader community programming. The client engaged PRESWERX to develop renderings, animations, a presentation, and coaching in support of the competitive pursuit.

Client Challenges

The client needed imagery and a presentation where a two-sheet arena read as sports venue and year-round civic destination at once:

  • A 1,250-seat sports sheet and a convertible event sheet required visuals that made the dual-use character of the facility clear.

  • A facility designed for hockey, trade shows, and receptions required a presentation that communicated the programming model to a city owner.

  • A city evaluating a $36.5M investment required renderings and animations that made a new arena feel like a real community destination.

Together, these called for a package that made an arena feel as purposeful off the ice as it was on it.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX delivered a full pursuit package for the Watertown Multi-Purpose Ice Arena in Watertown, South Dakota. Renderings depicted the two-sheet facility across both its competitive sports and multi-purpose event configurations, capturing the 1,250-seat arena environment and the convertible second sheet that serves as civic event space. Animations brought the completed arena to life, giving the City of Watertown's evaluation team a dynamic view of how the facility would function as both a sports venue and a year-round community destination. PRESWERX also developed a presentation covering the full scope and approach, then provided coaching to prepare the team to deliver it confidently.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX built the package to make a two-sheet arena feel as purposeful off the ice as it was on it.

  • Developed renderings that captured the competitive character of the 1,250-seat primary sheet and the event versatility of the convertible secondary sheet.

  • Produced animations that gave the City a dynamic view of the full facility across its sports and civic programming configurations.

  • Built a presentation and coaching approach that made the dual-sheet programming model and community investment legible to the city's evaluation audience.

The result was a package that positioned a two-sheet arena as one of the most versatile civic investments a city could make.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered renderings, animations, and a presentation package that gave the Watertown Multi-Purpose Ice Arena a complete pursuit case.

  • Renderings captured the 1,250-seat primary sheet and convertible event sheet as complementary parts of one purpose-built civic facility.

  • Animations gave the City of Watertown a dynamic view of the full arena complex as a finished, active community destination.

  • The presentation and coaching gave the team a confident case for a dual-use facility that served competitive sports and civic programming alike.

The client entered the City of Watertown selection with a package built for an arena that would anchor a growing South Dakota community.
